From East Coast “Beach Music”, to The British Invasion, to Jimi Hendrix, the Torques laid down the beat in the 1960’s. They had a long run of success in their hometown of Lexington, KY and adjacent states; as well as, the Jersey Shore, up to New York’s Greenwich Village and on into Boston and Cambridge, Mass. During the 60’s, it was “The Band” with a loyal following of groupies, fans, and heavy booking for 8 years. The band recorded nine 45rpm singles, a live LP (now on CD) that proved so popular it became a “badge of honor” to own, The Torques played alongside stars Wilson Pickett, Jimmy Ruffin, Major Lance, The Tams, and countless others. Then in 1968, reality set in and member left the band for medical school, law school, and of course, the draft. The heart of The Torques had been cut out and the band died, or so it was thought, but the soul lived on…
After 30 years, it is apparent that this collaborative entity did not die. In fact, it could not die, because the soul of The Torques proved too strong. Their reunion in 1999 was like a magic concoction with the musical connections as powerful as in the 60’s. Their sound is as if “Frozen in Time”, and their magic once again produces….one hellacious show!
